PRENATAL VITAMINS – FOLIC ACID

It is well known that if you are healthy – then you can give birth to a healthy child. It’s necessary for parents to protect themselves to give birth to a healthy child. Taking Folic Acid before, during and after the pregnancy is safe to avoid defected births. It is very important during pregnancy when the growth and cell division takes place.

Folic acid is an also known as vitamins B9 and folate as also pteroyl (L-glutamic acid) and pteroyl (L-glutamate), all these are forms of the water soluble vitamin B9. Folic Acid is not a biologically active due to having tetrahydrofolate and other imitative after it’s changing of dihydrofolic acid the liver.

Folic acids are also known as folate – B9 (Vitamin B) mostly found in green leafy vegetable i.e. spinach, enriched grains and orange juice. Folate is also found naturally in liver & nuts. A pregnant woman must take 400 mcg daily before, during and after pregnancy and it will reduce the birth of defected child.  Due to the deficiency of folic acid the 70 % of children are born with a disease which is called NTDs (neural tube defect).  It effects on the brain (anencephaly) and spinal cord (Spina bifida) of the baby. This defect is known as SPINA BIFIDA.  Start prenatal vitamins as early as possible because SPINA BIFIDA defects take place with the first 28 days of pregnancy even woman knows that she is pregnant.

1 to 2 per 1000 child births re effected with the neural tube defects. The patient suffering with NTD is life time medical patient and it cost high.

For normal life prenatal vitamins are good to start because 50% of the pregnancies are without planning. In prenatal vitamins, folic acid is a major substance and plays a great role in development, growth and formation of tissue.

A survey conducted in 1998 by U.F Food & Drug Administration and it is found that you can add folic acid to enrich grain products like intake of having breads, rice, breakfast cereals and pastas. But the diet can not fulfill your daily folic acid requirement, so it is recommended to have supplements enriched with folic acid.

You must have balanced and healthy diet with vitamins supplements to increase the decencies of your body. All pregnant women are recommended to add folic acid in their daily diet. The daily need of folic acid is 400 mcg. Some of the women need 400 mcg before pregnancy and during pregnancy it increased up to 800 mcg. The intake amount of 800 mcg is restricted by FDA. Folic acid supplements having 5,000 mcg of folic acids are available from the last 25 years.

Prenatal vitamins with rich Folic acids have many other benefits. The also help in decreasing of homocysteine serum concentrations. High level of homocysteine can lead to the disease of the cardiovascular – (STORK). Having supplements with the substance B6 and folate with daily meal, there are chances to reduce the risk of Heart attach? Folic acid is used up through some of these prescription drugs like Barbiturates, NSAIDA, Primidone, Oral contraceptive, Aspirin, Corticosteroids etc.
