PRENATAL VITAMINS

Prenatal vitamins are very useful and it is a hot issue now a days. It is better to use these vitamins before getting pregnant. Its use is beneficial to avoid certain birth imperfections. Prenatal vitamins are sufficient for body need and can be taken with normal diet.  It can be used as supplement with the diet but it is not a replacement of diet. A pregnant woman needs more healthy diet and vitamins than a normal one. A study has shown that a pregnant woman requires calcium between 1,200 to 1,500 mg but a normal prenatal vitamin contains 250mg. During pregnancy prenatal vitamins are necessary and must be taken after consultation with the doctor or health worker or midwife for recommendations.

Some time prenatal vitamins are used as supplements. They can be used to restore health. While using the prenatal vitamin – go for the prescribed vitamin only. The pharmaceutical companies and pharmacy store recommend the prenatal vitamin to sell their medicines over the counter. If at all anyone has bought some parental vitamin over the counter, one must take that medicine with you for better advice from the doctor. These pre-birth vitamins strengthen the child’s ability against infections and chances of giving birth to a healthy child increases.

Prenatal vitamins are particularly prepared with multivitamins for the mother-to-be. They are advised to take them for their own health and for the health of new-born babies. These prenatal vitamins are prepared for any deficiencies in the diet during the pregnancy. They contain folic acid, iron, minerals, various vitamins and calcium. These content are very vital for parental health.

The pregnant women need folic acids and calcium in their pregnancy. The folic acid can reduce the risk of serious defect on child’s brain and the spinal cord. This is called neural tube. The neural tube defect develops when a baby is with spine bifida – it means the spine is not fully developed.  Folic acid is good for the babies and for the mothers also. Due to def9iciency of basic vitamins the nerves of the child can be damaged and leave the incontinence, paralysis and some disorder like mental retardation. The defects of neural tube develop in the first 28 days after conceiving. A woman of childbearing must take 400 mcg of folic acids per day as it is also stated by The United State Public Health Services.

The mother-to-be can get this folic acid from green vegetables, beans, nuts and fruits. They are also available in the food cereals supplements. Having Iron in daily diet will help the mother and baby to carry oxygen. Taking regularly calcium during the pregnancy will help to build stronger bones of the mother and child without losing the mother’s bone density.

The mother-to-be should maintain a healthy diet. She must drink a lot of water and should do exercise specially designed for pregnant women. These vitamins are not the replacement of diet but are essential vitamin supplements to help supplement your diet.
